Join the Choir

On this page you can find out what the Salt Spring Singers have to offer to people like you who love to sing. We have two seasons: in January, we start working towards our Spring concert in May. Then, after a summer break, we meet again in September to start rehearsing for our Winter concert in December.

In 2025, the Fall/Winter session will start on September 2, with a meet and greet opportunity for new members, from 6:30 to 7 pm before our first rehearsal. Come meet present members, ask questions, get to know how things work, and help yourself decide if our choir is for you. Directly following, until 9 pm, we’ll hear what Deb Smith, our musical director, has planned for us. We will also have a first peek at some of the music scores that have been handed out to us.

Have a look at this page for more information on the Fall Program.

The registration fee is $160, except for students, who will pay only $40. Note that if you register online and pay before July 15, you will only be charged $150, as early registration helps us to plan for next year. To speed up registration, please Register online, or download the registration form and bring it to the first rehearsal. If you have any questions, please contact the President

The advance registration fee can be paid by cheque (payable to Salt Spring Singers), or Interac e-transfer.  The recipient email address for Interac e-transfers is treasurersssingers@gmail.com. The Singers’ e-transfer account is set up for auto deposit so no security question and answer are needed. Cheques should be mailed to Treasurer, Salt Spring Singers, 301 Canvasback Place, Salt Spring Island, BC V8K 2W5.

Please speak to the Membership person or Treasurer at registration if you require a fee subsidy.

Rehearsals for the full choir are held from 7 to 9 p.m. every Tuesday evening. On Mondays the soprano and alto sections rehearse from 5 to 6 pm and the tenor and bass sections rehearse from 6 to 7 pm. Choir rehearsals are held at the Salt Spring Baptist Church, 520 Lower Ganges Road. There is plenty of parking in the front and also in the back of the church.

The choir welcomes singers in all registers: soprano, alto, tenor, and bass, although we are at present in particular need of tenor and bass voices.

You don’t need to audition to join the choir and, while being able to read music is undoubtedly an asset, it is not essential to being a member. Being able to carry a tune and sing on pitch is, however, important. You’ll be able to master your parts with the help of music files, provided on this website.
