The Howard Years (2003 to 2012)

The talented musical team of Mitch and Jennifer Howard led the Singers for a decade. Mitch was a mischievous fellow, with a keen sense of humour and an indelible smile. The hilarious annual performance of his choreographed version of the Twelve Days of Christmas will be fondly remembered by many current choir members. Mitch was drawn to complex harmonies ala Morten Lauridsen and John Rutter, and so the Singers worked hard and developed the skills needed to make these challenging pieces ring. Jennifer’s accompanying skills provided excellent support, for both Mitch and the choir.

Mitch was diagnosed with cancer midway in his tenure, and so this sense of humour was put to the test as he underwent various treatments. In 2012, the challenge of balancing treatments with choir duties became too difficult, and he passed his baton to our present director, Don Conley.
